Abstract
"Focus on Midcoast Region" piece with an interview with Rob Draper, 55, a cinematographer and native of Australia. Draper plans to open a film and TV production studio called Visionmill, including a cafe, in Camden's Knox Mill. He believes parts of Belfast and Portland could double for streets in Paris, and he hopes to draw industry types to his facility. He says that a Federal Communications Commission mandate that all stations be digital by 2009 will mean "everyone will be scrambling for high-definition programming." Draper wants to have a production company that is diversified enough so that he and others can invest in feature films. Draper is convinced that people in the industry will be drawn to Maine. He talks about his plans, the funding, his potential workforce, producing "lifestyle" programming for TV, and the positive reaction to his project.
