Abstract

"Building & real estate" special section piece on Augusta-based Women Unlimited, an organization that advocates for women in the trades and technical careers, with an interview with Executive Director Mary Lake. She notes that partly thanks to the organization, 10 percent of Maine's workforce in road and bridge construction are women, compared to about 2 percent nationally. Started in 1988, the organization partners with the non-profit, public, and private sectors. Woolwich-based Reed & Reed has become a model, with women making up 20 percent of its workforce.
