Abstract
"Building & real estate" special section piece on plans by the owners of Saddleback Ski Area to build 30 condos and a hotel and expand trails and mountain infrastructure over time. Other small ski areas hope to capitalize on a trend that has families planning ski weekends closer to home. They hope not to jeopardizing their appeal as affordable, family-oriented destinations or to overextend themselves financially. With details on how Saddleback in Rangeley, Sugarloaf USA in Carrabassett Valley, Sunday River in Newry, Mt. Abram in Greenwood, and Shawnee Peak in Bridgton are developing their on-mountain real estate. Demand is high, including from out of state skiers.
