Abstract
Cheryl Michaelsen and her husband Michael LaPosta, owners of Rockland's Berry Manor Inn, invested time and money to garner a four-diamond rating from AAA. Other owners, like Pam Moss of the Lime Rock Inn in Rockland, wonder if the auto club's endorsement is overrated in the age of the Internet. The Captain Lord Mansion in Kennebunk, which has had a four-star rating from AAA for 26 years, is one of just 16 Maine establishments that received the rating this year. Owner Rick Litchfield says he's had to make changes as AAA guidelines have evolved. With details on the expense, work, and ongoing maintenance involved in getting and keeping the rating.
