Abstract

"Business Maine: Statewide" piece with a "Fuel Watch" report. The effects of Hurricane Katrina continue throughout the U.S. in the form of skyrocketing energy prices. Earlier this month, Republican lawmakers called for Gov. John Baldacci to temporarily suspend Maine's 25.9-cent gasoline tax. But Baldacci and other Democrats said such a move would be short-sighted. Steven Rowe, Maine attorney general, joined other attorneys general to investigate alleged price gouging by oil companies in light of record gas and heating oil prices following the hurricane.
