Abstract

"Focus on Building & Real Estate" commentary piece by David Dargie and Stephen Plunkard, senior vice presidents of Dufresne-Henry of Portland, on potential uses for the Brunswick Naval Air Station (BNAS), which is scheduled for closure. One option, modeled on Pease International Tradeport at the former Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, N.H., would utilize BNAS's large runways and its location on an air travel route to and from Europe to create an aviation trade center that could also provide international travel services. A more innovative use would be to create a sustainable community, certified by the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System and offering housing and small business opportunities. With details on this plan.
