Abstract
Article on national press coverage of Maine restaurants, and its effects on these small businesses. After Rob Evans, co-owner of the Portland restaurant Hugo's, was named "Best New Chef" by "Food & Wine" magazine, Evans said his business immediately tripled. National praise for Sam Hayward, chef/owner of Portland's Fore Street and a perpetual magazine subject, has focused attention on Maine's entire food scene. With comments on Steve Corry, chef and co-owner of 555 in Portland; Josh Potocki, chef and co-owner at One Fifty Ate in South Portland; Becky Rand, owner of Becky's Diner in Portland; Miles Henry, co-owner of the Maine Diner in Wells; and Nancy Harmon Jenkins, a Maine-based food journalist.
