Abstract
"From the Ground Up" piece on the Workforce Investment Board of Central/Western Maine, a coalition that is in the process of applying for a $1 million federal grant to fund an employer-driven employment and training system for the region's construction sector. Bryant Hoffman, executive director of the board, brought together a number of parties to form the Building Industry and Construction Collaborative, which would use the grant to implement the new training program. The program would address the shortage of skilled construction workers in the region, while providing high-wage jobs for local workers.
