Abstract

"Focus: Banking & Finance" piece on credit unions, with a focus on the trend that many credit unions are changing their names to better represent member bases and to encourage future growth. Luke Labbe, president of St. Joseph's Credit Union in Biddeford, said the credit union will decide this month on its new name after starting the name-change process in 2004. Dexter Regional Federal Credit Union earlier this year changed its name to Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union following the closure of Dexter Shoe Co. in 2001. Portland-based Maine Medical Services Federal Credit Union changed its name in 2004 to TruChoice Federal Credit Union with future expansion in mind.
