Abstract
"Focus on the Midcoast Region" piece on how museums are coping with uncertain finances. Tom Wilcox, executive director of the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, hired Vreeland Marketing and Design of Yarmouth. The firm will re-energize the museum's website, draw attention to the recent restoration of the Donnell House, and host tours with representatives from local tourism offices to help increase attendance, which has fallen from 60,000 to 40,000 since 1989. Executive Director Maureen Hefferen of the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, is marketing the work-in-progress gardens with the Maine Office of Tourism and the Boothbay Chamber of Commerce. The Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland collaborates with local artists and organizations, is helped by corporate sponsorships, and puts much of its marketing effort into brochures. The Maine Office of Tourism collaborates in marketing the Maine Art Museum Trail.
