Abstract

"Focus: Technology" piece on how health care facilities are using technology to keep electronic medical records (EMR) secure, with a focus on Martin's Point Health Care, a three-facility health care organization in Maine and New Hampshire. Martin's Point will test biometric scanners (fingerprint readers), proximity sensors, and smart cards EMR systems. Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) currently uses a smart card system with multiple layers of security.
