Abstract

"Focus: Building & Real Estate" piece on downtown revitalization efforts, with a focus on the Main Street Maine program, managed by the Maine Downtown Center in Augusta. So far, eight Maine communities are attempting revitalization through the program. Together, those projects have generated $23.5 million in public and private investment in physical improvements, and helped create 95 new businesses and 531 jobs. Lori Allen, program director for the Maine Downtown Center, said the center needs more state funding, the last of which was approved in 2002.
