Abstract

"Focus on Tourism and Hospitality" piece on FreeStayMaine, a program suggested by Amy Powers, director of the CruiseMaine Coalition. Other groups and government agencies involved with the program hope the offer of a free night's stay in Maine will bring tourists back to the state and generate additional data on who is coming to Maine. Vouchers will be handed out at 11 Maine ports this summer, focusing on cruise ship customers. CenTRO, the University of Maine's Center for Tourism Research and Outreach, will crunch the numbers generated by responses to the program. With details on studies done by CenTRO, which was launched in 2005 to give focus to disparate academic or industrial research and education projects on tourism.
