Abstract

Through the federal HUBZone (Historically Underutilized Business Zones) program, Virginia-based Superlative Technologies Inc. contracts with a call center in Machias to field calls for the Department of Defense. Officials are lobbying to change program rules so that towns like Millinocket in relatively high income counties will qualify. Although thousands of Maine businesses of all types qualify, just 111 have registered for the program.
