Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece with a profile of Noel Bonam, who came to Portland from India six years ago. He was recently named as head of Gov. John Baldacci's new Office of Multicultural Affairs. He believes that by welcoming new immigrants with training and education, they can strengthen the state's economy and be an important part of the much-needed replacement workforce. He says now is the time to plan for an inevitable increase in Maine's small but growing immigrant and minority populations.
