Abstract
When Chris McCormick became CEO of L.L. Bean five years ago, he stepped in to lead a reorganization to broaden Bean's focus outside its traditional catalog sales. Since McCormick's appointment, Internet sales have grown to outpace catalog sales, and the company has opened five retail stores outside of Maine. Earlier this year L. L. Bean announced plans to build more than 20 stores over the next four years. In an interview in question-and-answer format, McCormick discusses details of the company's retail strategy, including physical infrastructure changes, geographic strategy, possible changes to products or branding, and the arrival of outdoor supply company Cabela's to Scarborough.
