Abstract
"Newsworthy" piece on Machias-based Whitney Wreath, which recently leased 20,000 sq. ft. of space from the Passamaquoddy Tribe in Indian Township for wreath manufacturing. Founder David Whitney says the interior Washington County location provides easy access to balsam boughs, as well as an experienced wreath-making workforce in tribal members. Whitney takes a scientific approach to the business, focusing on finding efficiencies in a traditional process. Whitney Wreath employed 800 people last year and shipped 18,000 wreaths a day during the holiday season.
