Abstract
"Focus on Energy & Utilities" piece on the increase in oil-buying cooperatives in Maine. The Caribou Coalition for Affordable Energy began with eight families in 1991 and now counts 800 members. Such groups, when geographically clustered, can create efficiencies for oil dealers, but buying groups are not loyal to one dealer. With details on some of the new groups, including a Democratic group called Donkey Card.
