Abstract

"Focus on Building & Real Estate" piece on construction of the new Penobscot Narrows Bridge by two erstwhile competitors, Pittsfield-based Cianbro Corp. and Woolwich-based Reed & Reed, who put in a joint bid for the project. In an interview, project manager Kaven Philbrook talks of managing the 50/50 financial split, working on a similar project in North Carolina, building the public observatory--unique in the U.S., working with the bridge designer on site, the project's excellent safety record, and finishing within a day of being on schedule.
