Abstract
"From the Ground Up" piece on the state's transportation funding crisis, with a focus on the results of a poll conducted by the Maine Better Transportation Association (MBTA). The poll results showed a disconnect between voters' desires and lawmakers' actions. The Maine Department of Transportation's current budget calls for $648 million in spending while another $1.3 billion in transportation needs go unfunded. MBTA is leading the Maine Transportation Funding Coalition, a group created to work with the Legislature to draft new policies for increased transportation investment. Sen. Dennis Damon, D-Trenton, is sponsoring a bill that offers a set of 20-year goals for transportation improvements. Details.
