Abstract

Thanks in part to business-friendly state and local legislation, such as the repeal of the business equipment tax; and a focus by some manufacturers on niche markets or custom work, Maine's manufacturing exodus has slowed. Though the improving numbers don't indicate a manufacturing renaissance, the worst of the decline in manufacturing jobs might be over.
