Abstract
"Focus on Western Maine" piece on Gary Freeman, 59, a Florida resident with a large business in that state, who bought Mount Mica in South Paris where he digs for tourmaline, pink quartz and lepidolite mica. The mine costs Freeman roughly $200,000 annually to operate, and he says he could break even if he could sell all he found. His work is the most promising work in gem mining currently happening in the state. In March he bought the Orchard Pit mine in Buckfield and operates the two under the name Coromoto Minerals. He employs one miner, Richard Edwards, a former explosives worker. He says he loves rocks and isn't intent on turning a profit.
