Abstract
"Focus on Education & Training" piece on Lifelong Learning Accounts (LiLAs), which are administered through the Finance Authority of Maine and designed to help workers afford post-secondary education. Employers match a worker's investment in an account that helps pay for schooling. Only 14 companies have signed on to Maine's LiLA pilot project since it was launched in 2005 to help bolster degree attainment in the state. The project is currently funded by federal and foundation grants, but LiLA Program Manager Auta Main hopes the state will take over when money runs out in 2008. Maine Rep. Tom Allen has introduced a bill in Congress that would give tax breaks to companies that fund LiLAs.
