Abstract
"Focus: Banking & Finance" piece on Augusta-based Kennebec Savings Bank (KSB), with a focus on their new e-branch in Manchester. The branch contains two of the state's most technologically advanced ATMs. The new electronic, completely unstaffed, 24/7 banking branch has two deposit image ATMs, offering envelope-free check and cash deposits. Mark Johnston, CEO and president, says the competitive advantage of the e-branch is that is allows the bank to expand reach without the cost of staffing or regularly shuttling deposited checks from remote ATMs. Chris Pinkham, president of the Maine Association of Community Banks, said other banks are watching the innovative electronic branch to see how the new approach works.
