Abstract

"Focus on Greater Portland" piece on Rob Tod, founder of Portland-based Allagash Brewing Co., which specializes in Belgian-style ales, rather than the more common English-style ales. The company has increased production volume by 40 percent in each of the last three years. Tod says the other brewers in the state, though competitive, are cooperative and willing to share. The skyrocketing price of hops and increased costs for bottles and packaging will cut into profits for everyone. Allagash is building a malt silo to allow it to purchase brewing materials in bulk.
