Abstract

"Business Maine: Statewide" piece on a recent U.S. Appeals Court ruling in Washington that upheld temporary charges for regional power generators. Maine's Public Utilities Commission (PUC) and the Maine Public Advocate had previously argued that there was no justification for the temporary price hike, which will cost Maine $300 million by 2010. The payment system, administered by ISO-New England, translates to a 10 percent increase for businesses and 7 percent increase for residents. The charges help subsidize the development of power plants in southern New England.
