Abstract
"Minding Your Business." The peace protests outside the Cumberland County Jail are a nostalgic reminder of the declining military presence in Maine. Loring Air Force Base is closed, Bath Iron Works is phasing out its Portland dry dock, and few even remember the Air Force base in Topsham. Yet the Maine economy has not been devasted by the 30-year transition away from military spending, and the goals of the peace movement over the last 25 years have been largely acheived.
