Abstract

"Newsworthy" piece on President Tim Crowley of Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle, which is experiencing a surge in students tied to the slumping economy. The college has been proactive in working with laid-off paper mill and other workers. Besides popular programs in health care and the trades, the college's new wind power program drew over 60 applicants for 40 spots, expanded from the original 18 openings. The influx comes as the college is experiencing a $400,000 budget cut.
