Jim Ward, president of the company, says many of his business clients are self-insured. With details on how Patient Advocates lowers expenses for companies, including The Baker Co. in Sanford, and is planning growth into New Hampshire. The Baker company, whose employees have an average age of 47, just raised its premiums for the first time since 2005, and by less than 5 percent. Ward said he also helped a landscaping company, which employs mostly fit men in their 20s, to save more than $200,000 in avoided premiums.
