Abstract

"Focus on Law" piece with a profile of attorney Thomas Cox, head of the Maine Attorneys Saving Homes project, which coordinates pro bono foreclosure referrals for homeowners in danger of losing their homes. His former career involved calling in small business loans for a Maine bank and left him with a heavy conscience. Today, Cox is largely responsible for drawing attention to the mishandling of foreclosure documents by companies such as GMAC Mortgage Co., which used so-called "robo-signers." Cox dislikes that term and notes that the legal term for such conduct is "perjury."
