Abstract

This November's state election ballot may include a $17 million bond issue to fund research at the University of Maine and to bring in matching federal funds. Maine ranks 50th of the states (only the District of Columbia is lower) in reserach funding. 300 researchers in forty departments, representing half of the University of Maine at Orono's faculty, work on projects supported by external funding.
