Abstract

Though exports from Maine's largest industries fell in 1996, the decline was offset by a significant increase in small business exports. The largest declines were in the electronics and scrap and waste industries. Paper and allied products, Maine's largest export, grew by 1.7 percent. The state's largest export markets are Canada, Japan, and Malaysia; and the North American Free Trade Agreeement has caused exports to Mexico to increase by 142 percent. Two related stories.
