Abstract

Three related articles on air and water quality in Maine. Despite a precipitous drop in the deposition of major pollutants in Maine lakes, rivers and soils, ecologists believe oxides of nitrogen (or NOX) are poised to be the next major polluter. Dioxin levels around the state are declining. The University of Maine's Kevin Boyle presented a study showing that clean lakes and ponds are essential to Maine property values. Detailed articles include the biology and health risks of dioxins.
