Abstract
"Capitol Update" piece on the weakening of a bill easing restrictions on the amount of hours teens can work outside of school hours. The original proposal had no limits but the amended bill says that 16- and 17-year-olds will be limited to working a maximum of 6 hours per day up to 24 hours in a week and cannot work later than 10:15 pm. Some lawmakers are concerned that these later and extended hours will impact student achievement but others say that the existing law is too restrictive when compared with laws in other states.
