Abstract

“Focus Midcoast Region” piece on GridSolar’s plan to add capacity to a strained Boothbay peninsula electric grid by using what is called distributed generation rather than the costlier option of a transmission upgrade. Distributed generation brings together a variety of power generation resources, essentially creating a microgrid. The Boothbay pilot project will test whether non-transmission alternatives are functionally reliable and financially sustainable.
