Abstract

Piece about CMP’s proposal to impose a surcharge, or standby rate, on renewable energy customers who still need access to the grid. Various trade, environmental, and renewable energy groups oppose CMP’s Alternative Rate Plan 2014 proposal and have filed a case with the Maine Public Utilities Commission. CMP is facing flat or declining electricity usage as a result of efficiency programs, which in turn means flat or declining returns. Includes summaries of objections made by key intervenors, including Thermal Energy Storage of Maine and Maine Independent Colleges Association, as well as of support voiced by Efficiency Maine Trust and Bangor Hydro Electric.
