Abstract

Article on the Plum Creek Timber Co. and its 865,000 acres of timberland in Maine. The company helps sustain Maine’s forest products industry, which is responsible for one in 20 jobs in the state. Plum Creek is also a publicly traded real estate investment trust company and its real estate proposals have pitted the company against the Natural Resources Council of Maine and other groups. Article examines the company’s timber operations, its forest and wildlife management practices, and how it is preparing for the spruce budworm threat. Sidebar looks at Plum Creek’s proposed Moosehead development.
