Abstract
In 1980 "traded sector" jobs accounted for 40% of the state's total jobs. Today that figure is 27% of Maine's total workforce. Traded sector jobs are in industries where sales are rung up outside of the state, however the money is brought back to Maine. They generally pay 50% higher wages than jobs serving the local market. FocusMaine is working with agricultural, aquacultural and biopharmaceutical industries within Maine to help develop more "traded" sector jobs.
