Abstract

Melodie Peet, director of the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, is locked in conflict with Dr. Steven Katz, president of Jackson Brook Institute, over the state's new requirement for a "safety net of care" for the mentally ill. JBI currently houses former residents of the Augusta Mental Health Institute, and the Department of Human Services apparently owes JBI about $2 million it has refused to pay. Details.
