Abstract
With the establishment of the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument in Penobscot County, many local residents view it as an opportunity to diversify the local economy which has suffered since the closing of two paper mills. Several owners of businesses in Millinocket detail the plans and initiatives they are starting to help jump-start the economy. Included is a Q & A textbox entitled "At a Glance: Katahdin Woods and Water National Monument" that briefly describes the National Monument.
