Abstract

The Brooklin General Store has long been a gathering place for the community, as well as being a community store, however like other small general stores has faced challenges in staying profitable. In 2016, the old store was torn down and a new one erected in its place that will give it greater advantages in serving the community and its visitors. General stores Handy;s Market and Cafe in Yarmouth, the Alna General Store, Tenants Harbor General Store, , The Carrying Place on Swan’s Island (renamed The Island Market & Supply) and Monson General Store have, or will be going through, similar remodeling.
