Abstract
Three of the four largest employers in Piscataquis County are manufacturers. Puritan Medical Products and a sister company, Hardwood Products Co. employ 550 people and are committed to their community. Puritan/Hardwood make toothpicks, ice cream sticks, tongue depressors, swabs, and more sophisticated medical products. The rise in DNA testing, advanced disease testing, and more attention to food safety have driven a growth in the business. JSI Store Fixtures of Milo has also seen its business increase. The company makes items for grocery store displays. It recently added 60 positions and plans to add 40 more.
