Abstract

An in-depth examination of how Central Maine Helathcare prepared the hospital for the COVID-19 pandemic. Joanne Kenny-Lynch, director of infection prevention, started watching the virus in China in January. John Alexander, CMH chief medical officer, was also tracking it and for a while the two worked to check the hospital's capacity to respond, before realizing that they needed to establish a hospital incident command system. Staff, some of them new to their roles or to the hospital, mobilized quickly to transform rooms into a COVID unit and made surge plans, preparing for a worst-case scenario.
