Abstract

Maine Coast Heritage Trust is buying up parcels of land up and down the coast of Maine in an effort to bolster the state against the rising sea levels caused by climate change. Its Marsh for Tomorrow Initiative is a major new project aimed at conserving undeveloped upland around salt marshes. As the sea rises, the upland will become marshland. Coastal marshes save the state millions of dollars each year by mitigating pollution and flood damage. Tim Glidden, MCHT Director, and conservation planner Jeremy Gabrielson talk about the resilience of natural systems and the conservation ethic in Maine.
