Abstract
Excerpts from interviews with various business owners about being part of a multi-generational company. They discuss how they learned the family business, how to ensure that non-family family members are valued, how to incorporate ideas from mixed generations without conflict, and succession planning.
Interviewees include Jonathan Mapes, president and CEO of H.A. Mapes, Michael Dostie, third generation owner of J.Dostie Jewelers, John Vickery, Jr., a third generation owner of W.S. Emerson, Dottie Chalmers Cutter, fourth generation owner of Chalmers Insurance Group, and Sierra Dietz, owner of the Grasshopper Shop of Rockland.
