Abstract
An American Bankers Association report from February shows that woman are under-represented on corporate boards and in senior leadership roles in the industry. Several Maine banks are trying to change that. Norway Savings Bank's CEO Patricia Weigel, who recently became the first female board chair, and Jeanne Hulit, president and CEO of Maine Community Bank, are both aware of the need -- and the privilege -- to mentor younger women in the banking field. Gender diversity on boards and in executive positions has been improving as Baby Boomers retire and the financial industry realizes the benefits of having diverse voices at the table.
