Detailed history of the presence and progress of Quakers in Maine, notably in the Portland area. The first recorded Quaker (Religious Society of Friends) meeting in Maine was in Berwick, 1662.
Article includes illustration of Portland's Oak Street Friends Meeting House, and the Portland Friends Meeting House (Forest Avenue). Also includes biographical notes about the Morrell family.
