Abstract

"This Just In" piece reporting that Brian Hanson, owner of the Industry nightclub in Portland, has closed the club and is converting the facility into a restaurant, to be called Right Proper Charlie's. Will Gorham, the Old Port city councilor, is proposing to ban all after-hours entertainment in the Old Port. Efforts are also underway to limit the quota of bars allowed overlay licenses, which Right Proper Charlie's would likely need. With comments by Erica Schmitz, coordinator of Portland Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol; and Jan Beizer, executive director of Portland's Downtown District.
