Abstract

"Maine Life" piece on how Somalis in Lewiston and Auburn, many from a larger community of refugees in Atlanta, use cooking to connect to the culture they left behind. In Africa, refrigeration was rare, and Fowsia Musse, 28, of Auburn, says food was started fresh every day, and that preparing food in the community was enjoyable. Somalis began settling in Lewiston in 2001 and today represent about one in 12 Lewiston residents.
