Abstract
The World Cup Biathlon 2004 will be held March 3-6 in Fort Kent. Max Cobb, event manager, estimates the economic impact of the two-week event to be around $5.3 million. Portland's philanthropic Libra Foundation founded the Maine Winter Sports Center in 1999 to stimulate economic growth in the area. The center's successful bid for the upcoming event is its most exciting accomplishment to date. Some 20,000 spectators and 150 competitors from 26 countries will attend.
